Sigtuna was founded in 980 by Erik Segersäll and is Sweden’s oldest town. The city plans are largely the same today as when the town was first built and the original main street lies about three meters below the street we walk on today. Sigtuna Museum is currently home to the exhibition ”City of Kings, Viking Origins” that displays Sigtuna’s growth from the time of its founding to the close of the Middle Ages. Study unique archaeological findings such as gold rings, coins, runic inscriptions and exclusive items from Russia and the Byzantine.
Not far from Kristina Konferens & Hotell is Stora Gatan with its shops in an authentic setting. Bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries, artists and Sigtuna Museum are side by side in the attractive 18th and 19th century wooden houses in a variety of colours.
Lovely walking trails line the shores of Lake Mälaren.
